Boom Merchant makes his debut on Sisko Electrofanatik’s Gain Plus, and it’s a dark and smouldering two-track techno EP with raw sounds and unflinching tension.
Both tracks on the release have heavy basslines with weighty kick drums and raw high-end percussion. The tracks have a relentless momentum that keeps them hypnotic while having dramatic moments of change. “Azteca” has a rolling bassline that swirls and swells, then “Rain God/War God” has a vocal shouting “fire” at peak moments. The release shows off Boom Merchant’s clever use of filters and other modulating effects.
The EP is in the style that Boom Merchant has been making his trademark via releases on other record labels such as T78’s Autektone Dark and his own imprint Tribal Pulse. The tracks have a similar sound to classics from Dense & Pika, but Boom Merchant puts his own unique spin on things, and this is what makes him such an exciting producer.
Gain Plus has helped springboard the career of many a budding producer, and the label’s tracks can often be found in the Top 100 Hype chart or main Top 100 Techno charts on Beatport.
