Arson Suspect Arrested Near Kenneth Fire as LA Wildfires Rage
The fire, already responsible for consuming over 1,000 acres, has pushed residents and first responders to their limits.
Citizens Take Action
At approximately 4:30 PM, neighbors in the 21700 block of Ybarra Road in Woodland Hills witnessed a man allegedly attempting to light an object on fire behind a vehicle. Armed with what appeared to be a propane tank or flamethrower, the suspect was quickly confronted by vigilant residents who detained him until police arrived.
Renata Grinshpun, a witness, recounted the chaotic moments: “We were sitting in the backyard when we heard someone shout, ‘Call 911! He’s trying to start a fire!’ A group of neighbors rushed out, cornered him, and restrained him using zip ties and a rope.”
Investigation Underway
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the suspect’s detention but has yet to release his identity or establish a direct link to the Kenneth Fire. “This is being investigated as a crime, and at this time, we believe it to be a possible case of arson,” said Sean Dinse of LAPD’s Topanga Division.
The Kenneth Fire, which began earlier that afternoon in Upper Las Virgenes Canyon, had rapidly grown to 1,000 acres by nightfall, with only 35% containment. Helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft have been deployed to drop water and flame retardant, protecting nearby homes.
Community Resilience Amid Destruction
While first responders battle multiple wildfires across Southern California, including the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, the resilience of the Woodland Hills community has been inspiring. Residents united to prevent what could have been another devastating ignition point.
“We truly banded together,” Grinshpun said. “It was incredible to see neighbors come together to stop something so dangerous.”
Devastation Across Los Angeles

The Kenneth Fire is part of a series of blazes wreaking havoc across Los Angeles County. Over 10,000 structures have been lost, with evacuation orders affecting thousands. The causes of these fires remain under investigation, but officials are urging caution and vigilance.
