Noah Kahan’s whirlwind rise from indie folk artist to a household name is getting the documentary treatment.
The 28-year-old singer-songwriter behind the viral hit “Stick Season” is the subject of an upcoming film that follows his journey from small-town Vermont to sold-out arenas and back again.
Directed by Nick Sweeney, the Noah Kahan documentary is already complete and currently looking for a distributor, according to Rolling Stone. The project is backed by Live Nation Productions, Federal Films, Polygram Entertainment, and RadicalMedia.
The film takes viewers behind the scenes of Kahan’s rapid rise following the massive success of “Stick Season,” which exploded in popularity thanks to TikTok. His tour included a headlining night at Madison Square Garden and two shows at Boston’s Fenway Park-both major milestones for the rising star. The Fenway concerts were livestreamed to support his mental health initiative, The Busyhead Project.
But the story isn’t just about sold-out venues and viral moments. The Noah Kahan documentary also focuses on what happens when the lights go down. It follows Kahan back to Vermont as he reflects on the pressures of success, the struggle to maintain authenticity, and the personal challenges he’s faced out of the spotlight.
“As his tour wraps up, he returns to Vermont to grapple with the pressures of his success, the challenge of following it up, and the personal struggles he’s never shared before,” reads an official synopsis. “In this intimate look, Kahan reconnects with the people and places that shaped him, while navigating through life’s challenges and changing relationships.”
Kahan has been open about the emotional rollercoaster that came with his newfound fame. In his interview with Rolling Stone, he revealed that “Stick Season” was born out of a feeling of falling behind in the social media race.
“We all do this-let’s not pretend we don’t do it,” he said, referring to obsessively checking for engagement on TikTok. “Just refreshing it like an absolute maniac. And no one was, and I was like, ‘Dude, I suck.’”
But everything changed overnight. “I woke up the next morning, and it had done really well, and I was like, ‘I’m the best, yeah!’”
He said it was “really gratifying” to see how the song resonated with people. Fans began creating their own lyrics and personal versions of the track. What started as something deeply personal became something universal-and that’s exactly what this documentary aims to capture.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering his music, the Noah Kahan documentary looks like a raw, honest portrayal of an artist trying to stay grounded as his world changes fast. Keep an eye out for release details-this one’s going to hit close to home for a lot of people.
