Prince William Allegedly Sets to Break Tradition in Dealing with Prince Andrew

The future of Prince William’s reign as King can potentially have seismic repercussions for his uncle, Prince Andrew, who remains under fire and criticism in the royal family.

It is reported that the Prince of Wales will be even stricter than his father, King Charles III, in defending the reputation of the monarchy.

William is said to be deeply angry with Andrew, especially after reportedly rude comments were made against his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales. Sources say the comments were driven by jealousy over Kate’s increased popularity with both the royal family and the public.

Prince William’s Reported Plan for Parliament’s Role

In contrast to King Charles, who has also tried to pursue a more diplomatic path when dealing with his brother, William is likely to seek constitutional means to curtail Andrew’s position in the monarchy. Royal observers say that Parliament can strip titles by enacting legislation, and the reigning monarch can strip HRH status by issuing Letters Patent. The new Royal Warrant might also strip Andrew of the prince title, although sources warn that both would require political support to prevent it from being interpreted as a personal vendetta.

“Andrew’s Dukedom may be on the agenda when William becomes king,” a palace official briefed journalists.

Public Support for Stripping Titles

It is not only the royal family that has become tired of Andrew. A recent poll by YouGov found that 67% of people agree with stripping him of his royal titles. Just 13% think he should retain them, while 20% are undecided. Andrew still sits as the most unpopular royal, with just 5% holding a positive opinion.

The reputation of the Duke of York has also received additional blows in the wake of Andrew Lownie’s book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, where he is depicted as arrogant and condescending toward staff, with a record of infidelity and inappropriate conduct.

Ongoing Disputes Over Royal Lodge Residence

There have also been tensions over Andrew’s continued occupancy of the Royal Lodge in Windsor, a 30-bedroom mansion owing almost $700,000 in repair and upkeep fees. King Charles has reportedly complained in private at his brother’s refusal to do something about the condition of the property, calling Andrew’s attitude towards staff as arrogant. Reports of verbal confrontations with palace employees only added to speculation that his occupancy at the estate could be coming to a close.

Kate Middleton in the Middle of the Rift

Royal observers state that Andrew’s jealousy of Kate Middleton has further added to tensions with Prince William. The Princess of Wales, who is regularly hailed as the “saving grace” of the monarchy, remains highly popular among the public. Conversely, Andrew’s disparaging comments about her have allegedly made tension between uncle and nephew worse.

A Break in Royal Tradition for Prince George

At the same time, the new generation of royals is also taking up new positions. Prince George has just turned 12, triggering a centuries-old rule that has heirs flying separately in order to protect the line of succession. William himself did this at the same age, guaranteeing continuity in the future of the monarchy.

With William building towards his eventual monarchy, his approach to Andrew represents a break with the gentler management of family scandals in the past. Insiders are confident that when he becomes king, the royal family might be forced into one of its greatest internal confrontations in generations.
