Dani Thorne and CRUNCHi are back with a holy sledgehammer of a techno track – and this time, they’ve summoned CRAY for a chaotic spiritual awakening called ‘GOD IS A DJ’.
Dropping August 8 on Dim Mak, this isn’t your average club banger. It’s gritty, raw, loud, and drenched in industrial hardstyle energy. The kind of track that makes you feel like you’re dancing through a divine exorcism inside a warehouse soaked in sweat and strobe lights.
From the very first kick, ‘GOD IS A DJ’ slams you with pulsing beats, hypnotic rhythms, and a vocal line so iconic it could be scripture. And that line – “God is a DJ” – came straight from CRAY during the writing session. That moment changed everything. Dani Thorne instantly knew it was the theme they had to build around.
She explains, “When CRAY came up with the line, we knew right away that’s the direction. The instrumental had already been performed by CRUNCHi and I for months, but once CRAY stepped in, the whole track needed to evolve. We basically rebuilt the entire thing to match this sacred-meets-sinister idea. Being in a rave, deep in the underground with people you don’t know, losing yourself to music… it really does feel like church. Our kind of church.”
And it’s not just talk. The visuals for ‘GOD IS A DJ’ hammer the theme home. The music video follows three girls sneaking into an underground rave inside a rundown church. Candlelight flickers, speakers boom, and somewhere between the confessionals and the dance floor, the divine shows up in bass drops and strobes. It’s seductive, it’s gritty, and it’s absolutely unforgettable.
CRUNCHi shares the origin story: “This started as a rough sketch I sent to Dani in August 2024. It was called ‘Tight Dress’ at first. We went through tons of versions, chasing the right message and energy. Eventually, we scrapped the original vocals and rebuilt the entire thing. Then we brought in CRAY, and when her voice hit the track, we knew. That was the sound we were chasing all along.”
And it shows. Since debuting the track in underground sets and massive festival shows, the song has become more than just a rave weapon. It’s a statement. It’s a vibe. It’s a reminder that music, movement, and connection on the dancefloor can be just as spiritual as anything inside a cathedral.
‘GOD IS A DJ’ is more than just a track – it’s a mantra. A pulse-pounding love letter to the sacred chaos of the rave scene. With Dani Thorne and CRUNCHi’s fierce production and CRAY’s sultry vocal blessing, the song hits like a sermon you can dance to.
Whether you’re lost in a warehouse rave or vibing out in your bedroom with the lights off, this track delivers pure techno salvation.
