3 Are Legend, Timbaland and W&W Turn ‘Cry Me A River’ Into A Rave Weapon

Dance music’s big guns have just fired off a monster. 3 Are Legend – the high-voltage trio of Steve Aoki and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike – have teamed up with Timbaland and W&W to deliver a colossal, mainstage-ready remake of ‘Cry Me A River’.

Out now via Smash The House and Dim Mak, the track takes Justin Timberlake’s early-2000s R&B classic and blasts it into 2025 with festival-grade firepower.

This is more than a remix. It’s a generational crossover that fuses nostalgia with unrelenting energy. Under their 3 Are Legend banner, Aoki and DVLM have joined forces with Timbaland – the legendary producer who helped define an era – and mainstage kings W&W to transform Timberlake’s emotional heartbreak anthem into a euphoric rave stormer.

“Cry Me A River” was such a massive track when it came out,” says Steve Aoki. “Getting to flip that iconic vibe with Dimitri, Mike, Timbo, and W&W has been unreal. We wanted to take that raw emotion from the original and blow it up into a huge, cinematic festival anthem that still gives you early-2000s nostalgia.”

The result is built around that instantly recognisable melodic motif and hook, but once the drops hit, it’s all about earth-shaking bass and explosive festival moments. W&W’s trademark blend of big room and techno grit locks perfectly with 3 Are Legend’s festival-driven energy, while Timbaland’s touch keeps the soul of the track alive in the chaos.

For Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, this was about magic in the moment. “With 3 Are Legend, it’s always about creative chemistry. ‘Cry Me A River’ defined a moment in time, and reworking it with Timbaland and W&W felt like capturing lightning in a bottle. It still has that emotional punch, but now it hits with the kind of power we live for on stage.”

W&W have been testing the track live for months, refining it to its final, explosive form. “Since Steve Aoki premiered it with Timbaland at Ultra, it’s been awesome to see the reaction. The drop hits and the crowd goes wild. We knew we had to make it perfect for release.”

It’s a huge moment for both Dim Mak and Smash The House – two labels built on global dance domination. For Aoki, whose Dim Mak has been pushing electronic culture for years, and DVLM’s Smash The House, this 3 Are Legend release continues their legacy of high-impact collabs. Pair that with W&W’s peak-time craftsmanship and Timbaland’s timeless ear, and you’ve got a track engineered to destroy mainstages from Tomorrowland to Ultra.

More than just a rework, ‘Cry Me A River’ 2025 is a full-blown reinvention. It takes a pop classic dripping with heartbreak and injects it with stadium-sized adrenaline, turning the emotional into the euphoric. And when it drops in a live set, the impact is instant – pure chaos, pure unity, pure festival history in the making.

3 Are Legend, Timbaland, and W&W’s ‘Cry Me A River’ is out now on Smash The House / Dim Mak. Expect to hear it everywhere big drops and big emotions collide.
