Mat Zo is finally back in 2025, and he’s not holding anything back. The Anjunabeats icon returns with ‘Wounded’, an emotional, genre-blending epic that reintroduces the British producer’s unmistakable touch.
Dropping August 8 via Anjunabeats, ‘Wounded’ is an official cover of Fleet Foxes’ 2020 track Can I Believe, and Mat Zo turns it into an eight-minute masterclass in sound design.
For fans of Mat Zo, this release is a long-awaited treat. Whether you discovered him through Easy with Porter Robinson or Rebound with ARTY, you know Matan Zohar doesn’t do average. His GRAMMY-nominated debut album Damage Control (2013) broke serious ground, especially with the hit Easy. That single climbed to the top of the Billboard Heatseekers chart, landed a spot on BBC Radio 1’s A-List, was a favorite on Sirius XM BPM, and even got nominated for an Essential Mix of the Year and a GRAMMY.
Since then, Mat’s been doing his thing, flipping genres, experimenting with vibes, and pushing the edges of electronic music. In 2020, he dropped Illusion of Depth, a full-length LP that showcased his evolution. That record pulled in over 25 million streams and spawned tracks like The Next Chapter, Problems, and Colours. If Colours felt familiar, it’s probably because it was featured in the hit racing game Forza Horizon 5.
Last year, he surprised fans with ZOCASE EP, a bold trilogy of tracks that mashed together progressive house, breakbeat, and techno. Each song pushed boundaries, delivering unexpected twists and turns that proved Mat Zo isn’t here to follow rules.
With ‘Wounded’, he’s once again in top form. The track is layered, hypnotic, and cinematic, true to the emotional core of the original Fleet Foxes song but built up with Mat’s signature flair. There’s no rushing this one. Clocking in at over eight minutes, it’s the kind of song that pulls you in and refuses to let go. It’s meant for full immersion, headphones on, eyes closed, world off.
Even though ‘Wounded’ marks his 2025 debut, it doesn’t feel like a restart, it feels like a continuation of the same visionary trajectory Mat Zo has been carving out for years. He’s not riding trends. He’s setting the tone.
And fans won’t have to wait long to experience it. ‘Wounded’ drops on August 8 through Anjunabeats, the label that’s been home to so many of his career-defining releases. Whether you’re new to his catalog or a longtime follower, this track is bound to resonate.
If this is any indication of what Mat Zo has planned for the rest of 2025, we’re in for a wild, genre-defying ride.
